Our activities inspire positive change and foster a more responsible and impactful tech industry across the South West in addressing societal and environmental issues. Our guiding principles serve as a foundational compass to amplify our impact across the community.
Our definition of tech for good
Prioritising inclusion and skills, our definition of tech for good refers to the intentional use of digital technology to generate positive outcomes for people and the planet, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate and thrive in a digital world.
Tech4Good South West
Tech4Good South West is a network committed to tech for good and the power of digital innovation to bridge gaps and foster inclusion, ensuring that everyone has equal opportunities to connect, function and thrive in society. We convene and create the space for the community to collaborate, learn, and actively contribute to improving the welfare of our communities.
As a community, we subscribe to the following principles and pledge our commitment to monitor and make improvements in the following areas;
1) Inclusivity and Accessibility for All
We champion technology that is accessible to people of all abilities and we strive to bridge the digital divide. Our commitment to inclusivity means championing the design of products and services that consider diverse needs, that provide equal opportunities for participation and engagement ensuring that everyone can benefit from, and contribute to, a digital society.
2) Ethical Use of Data
We promote the ethical use of data. This means handling data responsibly and prioritising user privacy and security. We actively seek to minimise potential negative impacts on individuals and communities arising from data usage.
3) Protecting the planet
We are committed to promoting the role of technology in driving sustainability and preserving our planet.
4) Empowering innovation
We believe in an inclusive and empowered regional ecosystem that is a catalyst for tech for good innovation building, nurturing and supportive environments for start-ups and businesses to flourish, grow sustainably and contribute to the well-being of our communities.
5) Regional Collaboration
We believe in the power of collaboration and open exchange of ideas, knowledge and resources to address social challenges through technology. We will actively seek partnerships with diverse stakeholders including non profits, academia and the private sector.
6) Capacity building
We showcase the positive potential of technology and promote digital skills development and opportunities to promote digital literacy and empower individuals and organisations with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a digital age.
7) Continuous improvement
As a community, we commit to share information and resources to foster innovation and collective problem solving. We actively seek feedback, support and opportunities to support each other and the needs of our wider regional communities, amplifying the Tech4Good agenda.
